Change is the Only Constant

History is not just the evolution of technology, it is evolution of thoughts.

The 90’s kids have been lucky enough to see this transition from a TV to a computer to a laptop to a mobile. The technology at our fingertips and the world in our feet, just go out and conquer.

Evolution is the key to be successful, personally and professionally. Over the years, I believe, change is the only constant. As I was browsing through some ideas, I realised how potentially all of us have grown from the times of Orkut to being extremely active on LinkedIn. That’s what growing up means.
During one such scrolling my mind, I realised that social media has changed and has changed completely.

When I was introduced to Orkut back in 2006, I had just completed my SSC. People had decided their streams and it was just the beginning of disconnection from innocent age. And then entered Orkut. I remember all of us were addicted to it. Right from writing status/headline, changing DPs, the scraps, checking profile views was fun. Not to forget the “Angel Priya” started from here. Within a couple of years, when we entered college (budding first year engineers!), people around me were only speaking about Orkut and then Mr. Zuckerberg bombarded the world with FaceBook. Orkut eventually didn’t exist and then the rest is history. FaceBook started in one of the Harvard dorm room, with a vision to connect old friends has approximately 2.45 billion users around the globe in 12 years, which is 30% of the world population. A vision to connect the world changed to marketing and advertising model.

The initial generation using Facebook had grown and were quite looking for something new and they found WhatsApp and Instagram by 2011/12. Just to throw a light, WhatsApp was a product of The Great Recession of 2008. People were swiftly moving to other platforms and with the visionary mind Mark Zuckerberg he bought both in 2014 and 2012 respectively having a user base of 3.14 Billion. Adopting to the change, he is the top 10 billionaires of the world at the age of 36.

The social media platforms after changing its vision are potentially news platforms with glitter.

I’ve been working for about 6 years now and see things have changed a lot. They’re far ahead from what it used to be. Companies like Zomato/MMT offer a holistic solution for food/travel which used to be only restaurant/flight finding platform.

What product will this pandemic bring that will ease the consumer? Is this the time of supply chain? Will emerging technologies like Block Chain help in financial transactions? Will AI/ML take the charge for the next gen? We are here to either give an answer or to get an answer. Good Times ahead.
As Charles Darwin said, “it is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change

PS – I have almost stopped using FaceBook, use it twice a week for 10 minutes or so
