OMG!
This was my reaction when my order got delivered by Swiggy Insatmart yesterday. Though it was a combination of a Monday, a public holiday and night, but a order getting delivered in 5 minutes and 13 seconds is just CRAZY!! 🥹
I am a 90’s kid and come from a Tier-3/4 city where in my childhood my mother used to send me to bring a packet of milk from the nearby general store, hardly 300 meters. I use to take my cycle and come back loitering around, took 10 minutes at the minimum. Nowadays, I live in a gated community in Mumbai and we have retail stores inside. Also takes a minimum 12-15 minutes, considering distance, lift time and wait time.
I want to look it from four different lenses –
a. As a Customer
b. As a Supply Chain Professional
c. As a Doctor’s Husband
d. As a Startup Enthusiast
As a Customer, I technically save 1/3rd of my time. And I am paying for my convenience and doorstep delivery. I am making my life so much easier.
As a Supply Chain Professional, I feel how agile the supply chain has become. The disruption that dark stores have brought in our day to day life is enormous and the transparency it gives across the ecosystem is satisfying. Though, one executing the system has to be on the toes (keeping in mind all safety!)
As a Doctor’s Husband, my wife is earning more! 
The ease created is making us weaker day by day. We are getting addicted.
And finally as a Startup Enthusiast, I feel proud that there are people in India who are revolutionizing things – things are only going onwards and upwards!
My late grandmother used to say in Gujarati, “su badhu udi ne aavse?” Literal meaning that “Will things/people come flying?” Who knows, time in India is near for that as well. Probably a #Uber Helicopter or #dronedelivery
