MBA vs Non-MBA

Year 2014.

I had just started working as a sales professional. B.Tech was my educational degree. Ofcourse, opting not to work as an Engineer and working for a startup was not a regular norm for a middle class Gujju boy. Adding fuel to the fire (at home!) was rejecting an admit from an Australian University for Robotics Masters. Yes, that’s what I did. Well, the road selected was surely not a easy one.

Fast forward by 10 years, the road I took gave me satisfaction and to my parents, joy. One thought that always hovered over my mind during this years was to opt for an MBA or not. Had applied to a few external courses, but my guts did not believe that it would add value to my growth, hence never went for it. I always believe that work executed is way more important than earning a certificate.

As I went up the ladder, it came to my light that either my counter-parts and my teammates possessed MBA degrees from pedigree colleges or atleast good institutes. I always had to be either with them or ahead of them, hence
(a) Upskilling was important and
(b) Tenacious Hardwork was needed
What I had achieved with let’s say X years, they reached there in X-2 or X-3 years. (And to that extent for some elite colleges, people did it in X-5 years!)

The difference here – experience. Well, a debatable topic of MBA vs non-MBA can surely be heated up with your views and comments but one simple question – does MBA college provide that necessary skill that would trump real time experiences?!
